I want to star off by saying I really love the car I purchased, and their process was flawless in the purchase. However, I asked Mr Maguire In good faith to cover half the cost of the failed dual mass flywheel in the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen that I purchased from him with 44,895 miles on November 12, 2022 and he refused. I came to Mr. Macguire with a concern about a noise I had with the car on January 18, 2023. I had it diagnosed by a certified Volkswagen technician at 46,328 miles before taking it back to Mr Maguuire to point them in the direction, with full understanding that they would want to do their own diagnosis. I dropped the car off with them on Monday January 23, 2023, I got a call the next day, saying they did not hear anything. I was able to get the car to make the noise in their parking lot but not as loud as it had been earlier because the weather had warmed up and the car was warm, i explained the noise was louder at cold start up and in cold weather, classic symptoms of dual mass flywheel failure, but Mr. Maguire insisted that the car was not going to leave me stranded on the side of the road and he would not tear into a “perfectly good car” and take his tech off of “more important work”. I asked if the car started making the noise louder if i could bring it back and he said he was not going to fix it, that i could buy the part and pay for them to put it in if it “made me feel better about the car”. he told me I bought a 10 year old car and it was bound to make some noise. I tried to explain to him that I went to automotive school (but chose to not go into the field) and know a thing or two about cars and if the dual mass flywheel failed all the way it would take out the transmission, but he didn’t want to hear it. At this interaction I had 18 days and roughly 1,000 miles left on their warranty. I also understood that I was going to have to pay 50% of the repair cost according to their warranty. Volkswagen wanted $3,143.83n to do the repair, I was not interested in spending almost $3200 on a car I just purchased and only made one payment on, that was still under their “warranty”. The drive back to my house had the clicking noise of the flywheel, I just do not believe that the tech did not hear the noise. I purchased a dual mass flywheel myself for $413.44, all the required stretch bolts for $57.75, rented a bay at the hobby shop on Oceana Navy Base for $62.50, and paid my friend that is a certified Volkswagen technician $525.00 to replace the flywheel. A total of $1058.69. According to their warranty they should pay $529.35. The work was completed February 11, 2023 at 47620 miles, and no more flywheel noise is present. Mr. Maguire said to me “I’m sorry it did not play out how you expected it to, you didn’t have the repair done by an authorized technician and put an aftermarket part in the car, we will not and cannot pay” I argued that he told me that he wouldn’t fix it and denied saying that. I am disappointed in the whole situation and not sure I would recommend getting a car from them. He prides himself on being retired military but totally did this military family wrong in my opinion. I was never asking him to warranty the part or the work itself, but just to do the right thing and cover half the cost of the repair.

Tim Maguire and his crew are very customer service oriented and are real car guys. They have a truly cool variety of early muscle and luxury cars. Never junk!!!! The only thing I have to say that is less than stellar is that they do try to semi aggressively sell everyone extended warranties on their purchases. No big deal if you don’t want that, just decline.

Buying was ok, but afterwards was not. Couldn’t tell any issues on I-64 as interstate was rough. However, on the way home I noticed a shutter in drive train. I immediately called salesman and he told me to bring it back and owner would make it right. I explicitly asked that no friction additive be put in transmission because there was a 3 month warranty on truck. I took truck back and was told it needed friction additive for transmission. Fast forward 3 months and warranty is expired and transmission done same thing because dealer put a band aid fix on transmission. I had to have transmission shop replace torque converter for $1000. This is after I told the salesman and owner it felt like torque converter shutter and was told it wasn’t. ****update***** Immediately after posting this review the dealership called me and sent me a check for full reimbursement of $1000. Therefore, I have changed my rating.
